This week, my friend Sonia, who I haven't seen since 6th grade (!!!) connected with me on Facebook. God bless Facebook--it's a blessing how God allows paths to cross that haven't in years. Sonia asked a favor--if I'd pray for her--because she was just diagnosed with breast cancer. My heart bittersweetly filled. Sweet at the honor to be one of the praying people in Sonia's life. Bitter for her unexpected news. But Sonia is already shining--she told me she believes this is all for God's purpose--rendering me speechless. I got her OK to share this--with hopes of rallying us to come together in prayer. And if you (or someone you know) has battled cancer, might you leave an encouraging word for Sonia? In the coming days, I know it will be greatly needed & greatly appreciated.

words of encouragement for sonia...

i am surrounded by people who were statistics; you know, those people where the medical community decided their fate before factoring in their faith. these family and friends they are healthy and using their story to change the world one person at a time.

i have seen god move mountains. i have seen him step in and heal in ways where people were left speechless.

the road is long and often lonely but through the fire, god does some of his very best work -- in other people. heather mentioned that you believe it is for god's purpose and i believe you are right. it is the people in your path, the peace that you have that he is in control that will speak volumes to the world around you.

be encouraged. be strong. know that when you feel weak, he is strong. when you are weary, he will give you rest. i will be storming the gates of heaven for you.

My dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer 12 years ago. He was 65 years when that hapened. We were confused, sad and angry because he is a God's man and we did not understand why this hapend to him. But today we learn from him a lot of things. He never give up, he never waining, he always wake up at 5 in the morning to pray, walk around the park and play with his grandkids. Today we give thanks to Lord every day for his life. He show us a lesson. Never give up and never, never be afraid. God thoughts are more higher than ours thoughts.

Sonia- it is no coincidence that you reconnected with Heather for such a time as this! I will be praying for daily and want to share with you my favorite verse. 1John 4:18 MSG "There is no room in love for fear. Well-formed love banishes fear. Since fear is crippling, a fearful life- fear of death, fear of judgement- is one not yet fully formed in love"

You are loved by the Almighty. And regardless of what our circumstance - He loves us and when He loves us we have nothing to fear. Nothing.

Sonia, I feel led to tell u listen to the song Masterpiece by Sandy patty. It says how we are Gods masterpiece, he is with us n has been with us even before we were born. He knows every day n it is in his plan. We are truly a part of him and our life is in his hands. Live each day to the fullest and know he has a plan and is in control. He is bigger than cancer or any other thing that can affect us. I saw a billboard the other day that simply said cancer and the last three letters( cer)were scratched out with a crayon and CAN was left. With God we CAN- all things are possible. I have had 5 family members with cancer and 2 animals. It has been very real in my life but I realize that God is bigger. I will keep u in my prayers, be strong u CAN!! Angle

Sonia-I believe in you and God, you were right, it is his purpose. Some of the best life lessons, friendship, love, support and God's grace (and much more) I have learned/experienced with others who are fighting some type of cancers. Through the good and bad days I have been inspired by their strength and spirit. I believe those who will surround you will see God reflected in your words, actions, strength, etc. and grow in their faith. As Heather stated you are "already shining", you are being the light. Shine Sonia Shine!!! I will be keeping you in my prayers and putting you on a prayer list. Big hug!

Dear Sonia,It wasn't cancer, but a heart attack that left my dad on life support on Sept 10, the day before the 911 attacks. As a family, we were given NO hope of his recovery. To be honest with you, I had very little faith. Even after life-support was discontinued, the Doctors told us he would have a very poor quality of life. Last week, he played his saxophone in church! I can tell you first hand, I have witnessed a miracle. I LOVE how Philip Yancy defines miracles. He calls them "snapshots into the supernatural"! I look forward to hearing about your miracle!

Hi Sonia!

I'm honored to be able to pray for you, as I also have few friends right now going through the same thing. One just had a double masectomy, many of us prayed for her the night before surgery at her home, we also prayed for another friend there the same night with breast cancer. The one that just had surgery, needs no treatment, yay God! The other friend is gong through treatment at the present, but is so trusting God, she is absolutely a precious witness to all around her! Another friend had surgery in the Fall, also a masectomy, she needed no treatment and has recovered in amazing ways! They all 3 live right in the Davie, Pembroke Pines area. If you would want someone to talk with, I am sure they'd be delighted to be there for you, I would too. I love encouraging and praying for others. Know God's hand is on you and He is already ordering your each and every step. Proverbs 3: 5 & 6. I sense this is going to be an awesome journey for you with the Lord and also with family and friends that are praying for you, from the bottom of their hearts! I am one of them! God loves you and I do too!

Sonia, What an amazing woman and God is all over you already, You comment to heather that this is all for the Purposes of God is in the Word you know .....let me encourage you a tiny bit more from the Message Bible on the FACT that all things work together for good!
and that HE HAS CALLED YOU Princess, by NAME

"Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God's Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don't know how or what to pray, it doesn't matter.
He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God.
That's why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good...."God knew what he was doing from the very beginning.
He decided from the outset to shape the lives of those who love him along the same lines as the life of his Son.
The Son stands first in the line of humanity he restored. We see the original and intended shape of our lives there in him. After God made that decision of what his children should be like, he followed it up by calling people by name.
After he called them by name, he set them on a solid basis with himself.
And then, after getting them established, he stayed with them to the end, gloriously completing what he had begun.

I dont know you but I wanted to say to just trust God! He is the only one with the final answer for our lives. The Drs help and assist us but God is in control. My husband is battling Multiple Myeloma Cancer since 2008, we went thru very dark moments but never doubt God. We know He has a purpose on everything even when we dont understand, we just trust. I pray for your healing and that God makes you a stronger person. In Christ, Denise

Sonia, I read this and wanted to share it with you: "You follow your faith, as weak as it is, rather than your doubts, as strong as they seem to you right now. You do that and leave the rest up to God. He'll make sure everything goes according to "His" plan."
