Three years ago, I reported on the Iranian parliament that voted in favor of a draft bill which would codify the death penalty for any male Iranian who leaves his Islamic faith. (Women would get life imprisonment.) The pastor (on the left) was executed by hanging. His son (on the right) awaits the same fate. If you have a hard time identifying with this, let me put it this way: if this was a new law in our country, I could be put in prison for life & worse, Raul could be killed. Today, keep in mind those who don't have freedom of religion--and give God some thanks that we live in country where we do.

These are martyrs of the faith...I'm currently reading The Cost of Discipleship by Bonhoeffer and it's eye opening. In the news today I read about schools that have atheists clubs just like the Christian clubs they have...they're reasoning, "It's only fair." So what will it be next? Will pastors be forced to marry gay couples? And how many will still preach Christ like these two brave men who were persecuted for their face? We have to be thankful for our religious freedoms in this country but I don't know how long it will last.

YES! I'm so thankful to live in America. I don't think you would fair too well in Prison, Heather..........you're way too cute. Seriously, stories like this really make me sick. I think we, as Americans, tend to take for granted the freedoms we have!

If you go on Voice of the Martyr's website, you will find a myriad of stories and how we can help as Christians, support our brothers and sisters abroad. My husband and I have supported this ministry because it is all about getting God's word out to countries where it is illegal to even have a bible or even say the name of Jesus. Also, the book by Randy Alcorn, Safely Home is a fictional book about the last martyr on this earth before Jesus comes in riding on his white horse...I encourage everyone to read this. It strengthens faith and opens your eyes to His awesome power and grace. There is a quote that my husband loves (and me as well) that says,"If being a Christian were illegal, would there be enough evidence to convict you?" Someday, we may all have to choose between Jesus and comfort/home/freedom/life etc.
