Last night, due to incessant coughing, I laid awake thinking about a verse God put in my head where Jesus tells a paralyzed guy to pick up his mat & WALK & the guy did! (John 5:8).  Revealed to me was that Jesus didn't go to him & help him walk.  Sometimes, we do NOT act like the paralytic. Instead, we sit, rendering ourselves useless, waiting for Jesus to come to us OR for Jesus to send others to us. But folks? Sometimes? We need to get up, walk now & walk on our own. How much time I have wasted (on certain matters) where I sat in a pile of self-induced dirt waiting for a miracle when the miracle was within me. And there was Jesus--hoping, believing, praying I would just get UP--not in MY strength, but in HIS. I don't know who you are or where you are. But this post is not for the truly broken. It is for those of us who think we are--and don't need to be. Let's try! Let's stand! Let's walk!

LOVE that story! Its part of our Bible curriculum and its one of my faves to discuss with my class. My favorite part though, is when we talk about how the man 'got up and walked'. We talk about how he wasn't able to walk, how he couldn't do much, until his amazing friends took him to see an even more amazing Jesus to be healed. We talk about the excitement he must have felt when he was finally able to get up and walk. I let the kids show me how they think he left the house - and they all run, some doing a little dance too :) LOVE the way you brought this new view to the story. Thank you Heather, for being an amazing friend who lead people to an even more amazing Jesus.

I heard a teaching about something very similar at Passion and it's something I've been mulling over. Still working through it so bear with me...

I think a lot of times we pray and wait for God to do something. When God wants us to pray and in faith DO SOMETHING! Of course we pray and seek wisdom and should be sensitive to the Holy Spirit but the Bible doesn't say that we just wait idly for things to happen to us.
Col 3:17 says "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." I don't think God is too much concerned with the 'what' as he is with the "why." The 'what' does matter but sometimes what God wants to do is bigger than the 'what'. No matter what we do, we're chosen to be carriers of the Name of the Lord and God blesses that.

I think sometimes we spend too much time waiting for some supernatural miracle instead of running after what God has put before us -- which in itself is a miracle if you really think about it.

So yea, waiting is good -- God made people wait in the Bible all the time -- but waiting out of fear or discouragement or whatever isn't.

Those are just my two cents... Sorry for rambling. It's just been on my mind so I had a lot to say.

Great post HP!

Wow! Wow! I was just fighting through one of those pitiful, woe is me moments asking God please just tell me why/how I keep ending up in this same place. Especially when I am trusting Him, believing Him, having faith in Him and expecting big things because of Him and He continually sends people to speak power into my life. This just hit home. GIRL - THANK YA!!!

God bless you FUNK. Although you laid awake from your cough, I am grateful for the life giving words He placed into you to share. Talk about utilizing every moment for our good. I needed to hear this. At times I'm waiting for Him to come swoop me off my feet and carry me away to never never land. But the reality is He wants us to learn to walk on our own just like a good parent does. Just as BJ Forwood stated, it's only as we start He enables. But as you have stated you already had it in you, He just reminds us in such a loving encouraging way of our God given potential that is in all of us, and from those beautiful words, we are filled with a strength and courage to pick up our mat and walk.

When I feel like that fence about to keel over, a reminder, those encouraging 'I, believe in you,' comes rushing at me, and I stand up, with joyful tears going down my face, and WALK.

Always grateful for you embracing and answering to the nudge.

Lifted in prayer you remain, and encouraging to all through you He remains.

Peace and Love to you FUNK.

PS, as I was chillin' next to Raul last night as meet and greet with PT and Steph wrapped up, I was tripping off of Raul's hair color. Was that you're doing, his own, or was it as sometime ago Pastor Arturo losing a bet to the RUSH team and having to dye his hair situation?

Maybe that's a convo for Pastor Raul and I. :)

May the Lord continue to guide and strengthen you to walk strong and tall.
